If you ask any engineer, they will explain to you how industrial connectors play a very crucial role in designing and manufacturing various machines, whether they are used in normal conditions or the harsh environmental situations like extreme temperature (hot and cold), air pressure, water pressure, dust, dirt, and much more. Hence, for every electronic project, connectors are considered as the nervous system that provides strength and energy to every part of the machine without failure.
The connector manufacturers in India are very well aware of the necessities and hence they help their clients in customizing it as per the requirements depending on the machines. The major consideration when postulating a connector type is the “Mounting Type” and these mounted connectors are also called receptacle/panel mount connectors. When we talk about the mounting type, you will get various choices that may create confusion about which one to select for your connector hence, before choosing one, two major things should be considered:
- How the connectors are mounted?
- What they will be mounted to?
Let us know more about the different types of circular connector mounting types.
1. Flange Mount Type
In every flange mount type, the connector’s shell is always comprised of a square or oval-shaped flange along with either threaded or loosened mounting holes that are used for nut screws. These nut screws are useful for securing the connectors to a panel, box, or wall. The mounting holes are available in two configurations that are
- a two-hole flange that is available with holes at the upper and lowest area.
- a four-hole flange that is available with holes at each angle.
These flange mounts are designed for different connector types those are wall mounts, box mounts, and thru-bulkhead-style.
2.Nutplates for Flange Mount Type
Nutplates are an accessory for flange mounts that are designed with a flat metal bracket with two or four confined nuts. These are necessary for the flange mounts as it helps in securing the receptacles to a panel. The brackets are made with an aluminum alloy plating with steel nuts that are further alloy-plated with cadmium. To avoid the loosening of screw nuts, nut plates usually use one plate which helps various devices to work in any condition without loosening any screw nut.
3. Jam Nut Mount Type
A jam nut is a large hex nut that is designed to screw onto the threads of the connectors and is specially used in applications that have space restraint. The jam nut receptacle is designed in a way that it resembles the letter “D” which is round in shape with one flat side. The major role of this mount type is when the process of mating connectors occurs. It helps in thwarting the connector from falling through the hole or whirling the circles during the process of tightening the lock nut. The jam nut receptacles are famous for having an O-ring that is very useful in sealing the connector to the panel, box, or wall. This process helps in avoiding the loosening of the connector and causing any damage to the device.
